Numbers 1:51 Whenever the tabernacle is to move, the Levites are to take it down, and whenever the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall do it. Anyone else who goes near it shall be put to death.
PERSONAL COMMENTARY
Other translations say “stranger” or “layman” or “outsider.” However, it does seem as if it applies to anyone who is not a Levite.
I’m not entirely sure, but I think the Levites are the priest class, like the Brahmins in Hindu society. Anyone with the last name, Levi, Levy, Lewis can be traced back to this priestly lineage.
