Genesis 22:1-3 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.”
Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.
PERSONAL COMMENTARY
Countless sermons have been preached on this story demonstrating Abraham’s “faith” in God. However, think about the reality of this story and its implications. I’ve read stories about parents killing their children because they claim God told them to do so. It would have been nice to say “God would NEVER say such a thing” but this story negates that.

That’s why they’re opposed to abortion: Wait until you can actually see the terror in your child’s eyes before you kill them. That’s the Christian, bible-sanctioned way, approved by 4 out of 5 Texas mothers.

The point is that Abraham passed God’s test.
God prevented him from killing his son.
God provided a substitute of his own, a lamb of God, with thorns around his head.

I think you are forgetting something important. Abraham had been promised that thru this son a mulititude of nations would come. He knew that God had made a promise….so….if God now wanted him to kill His only recognized son…God was going to have to work it out…whether He brings Isaac back to life or whatever. Abraham did indeed have faith in God and in His promises.
Thanks for the Scripture…Newcolors
